Statement:
My painting is from a body of work exploring the impact of loss and grief, an attempt to respond to the often-opposing forces of the external and internal self during times of emotional intensity. From the outside, nothing has changed. There are no obvious signifiers that this person is suffering. But from the inside, everything has changed. That person’s world, indeed, their entire identity may have fallen away, as they find themselves facing a journey of rediscovery and recalibration - to figure out who they are in relation to these life-changing events.
