My painting ‘Atoms made in Burning Stars’ is a simplified interior of a building with an amorphous pink shape in one corner of the image, somewhere between an abandoned bedsheet and a developing creature. I wanted the other objects appearing around the painting to represent the formation of matter over time. The title comes from some of my reading about the formation of elements within the human body having occurred within stars. Although there are no figures in my work, it’s always about people and lived experience. The ideas are shown through the lens of geology, time, space and the minutiae of landscape, in this case occurring inside the confines of a room.
