Statement:
The painting is from a series made at the end of 2021 and ongoing, that examine where my painting practice meets drawing. Layering paper, charcoal and other dry media over painterly backgrounds, collaging part drawings onto half-finished paintings or painting out drawings begun on canvas and wood panel, I explore what separates the two distinct disciplines, in the process understanding cyclical ways of working where apparently giant leaps are made only to find I am back gloriously where I started. There appears to be an endless tail chase where one cant quite catch up with the other in the liminal space between the two.
Kate Shooter studied Fine Art at Howard Gardens Art school in Cardiff and then Wimbledon School of Art, graduating in 1996. She works from her home studio near Abergavenny in South Wales. Returning to her painting practice full time in 2016, Kate has since exhibited widely across South Wales and Bristol, Oxford, London and Brighton. Her work is held in private collections worldwide.
