Statement:
Ostensibly the subject matter of the work appears to consist of everyday objects and scenes that feel familiar. These prosaic motifs are used as a framework around which I can investigate my relationship with the subject through paint. This approach allows me to give a visual form to allusive and often fleeting sensations. The work is made in series and it is this repetition that intensifies and at the same time, deepens my engagement with the subject.
The theme of ‘Nothing has changed,Everything has changed’ relates to my experience of the pandemic and ensuing lockdowns. I decided to focus exclusively on the items and objects around me at this time because they were such an integral part of my day to day life. These objects became the motifs I used to interrogate my handling of paint. Through this interrogation I began to develop a language with which to article my concerns.
