Statement:
‘That Old Corduroy Couch’ is painted from memory of the couch from my childhood home. The piece of furniture stays the same, but is witness to all the changes and developments of family life at that time. It also speaks of the emotional connection to my family that is no longer there.
I am interested in 'Bad Painting' a purposely raw style of painting developed in 1970’s, where the idea and the immediacy of the work is most important. I examine ideas around quotidian daily experience, observations drawn from the world around me and more intimate or personal thoughts. The paintings are often an amalgam of images and text, which may vary from the humorous to the confessional. They are a reflection of the tension we all experience between the vulnerability of our innermost thoughts and the visage we present in public. My work is a visual diary born out of my everyday life.
