Statement:
The work I make forms part of an ongoing series of staged spaces, evolving from collected ephemera. Shapes are defined and echoed across the surface, piled up, assembled, curated; colour picked out and heightened, or flattened.
Brush marks are sometimes jaunty and fluid, revealing the trace of the mark as a quick expression, and sometimes paint is absent.
‘Ruffles’ was inspired by a research trip to a theatre prop warehouse:
walking through corridors of cotton crinoline hoops and netting, dresses of all eras, and fibres full of stories, empty of person
packed rows of clothes worn by different bodies muffling the sound, slightly musty air
‘Boing!’ is a snapshot of resting table tennis bats and balls, abstracted, flattened and silent, after being used in a rally
