Statement:
Derived from belief in the purity and beauty of failure, my work seeks form through a prolonged undermining of the system from which it was conceived. In this, I chase an ordered image, but one which is inherently flawed.
Through working, resolved geometric foundations begin to collapse, shifting decisions from systematic to innate. This dislocation in process aims to break any readable sense of continuity in the product, flawing the image and enforcing consumption as a total.
Dependent heavily upon limitation, I utilise subject as an essential corrective, gifting aid to an exploration of how far rhythm can be fractured, yet structure maintained. Epitomising ‘everything has changed, nothing has changed’, I work with and build upon the traditions of western painting in pursuit of sustainable freshness in both paint and image.
Merging surface articulation with pictorial space in pursuit of tension, not harmony; I fall victim to a process intertwined with paint itself, dependant entirely upon the conditions of painting today.
