Statement:
My work looks upon the history of portraiture and how an artist can approach the portrait with the weight of its past; This can be seen in my current candlelight paintings; these paintings play upon similarities between images of people crying in classical works and images shared on social media. The similarities are both heartening and disturbing.
Casper White studied fine art at the Cardiff School of Art and Design, and completed a masters at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David. He lives and works in Cardiff and is a member of Contemporary British Painting and Contemporary British Portrait Painters.
I am currently prioritizing how light articulates a subject and illuminates a surface. This can be seen in my current candlelight paintings (BBC - Inside Culture - The Art of Crying ). Differently lit faces were also part of my series of nightclub/comedown paintings dealing with actual and simulated nightclub lighting (National Portrait Gallery Travel Award 2017— 2018). As a curator, I try to focus on creating relationships between works and using this to create conversation.
